Dr. Barack studied Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University, before being accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 1978. After completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Barack opted to pursue further education in the field of Periodontics, completing a residency at University of Illinois at Chicago in 1984. He received his Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1991. While at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Barack served as an Assistant Clinical Professor for the College of Dentistry from 1983 to 1995.
While in private practice, Dr. Barack incorporated implant surgical techniques into his practice beginning with training in the Bränemark Implant System at the University of Texas in San Antonio in 1987. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Barack has volunteered his time to the homeless population of Chicagoland and has traveled as far as Honduras to provide dental care to underserved areas.
Dr. Barack has focused his periodontal practice to implant surgery and supportive reconstructive surgical procedures. Over the past ten years, he has refined surgical techniques related to esthetic implant results and the immediate provisionalization of dental implants for the edentulous arches. In addition to his teaching duties at the University Of Illinois- College Of Dentistry, Dr. Barack has lectured across the country on implant and periodontal surgical techniques.
In his spare time, Dr. Barack enjoys exercising and playing billiards. In the past, Dr. Barack studied Martial Arts and has a black belt in karate!
Jody Janczak, R.D.H., B.S., joined our practice in 1999 after earning her dental hygiene degree and the Golden Scaler Award from Harper College. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 2007 from the University of St. Francis and in 2013, returned to her alma mater as a clinical instructor of dental hygiene. She enjoys getting to know her patients individually to provide the very best periodontal care and they love her detailed approach to treatment. She blended her passion for dental hygiene and physical fitness when she developed a course for fellow hygienists titled Injury Prevention Techniques and Exercises for Dental Hygienists. Jody coordinates monthly meetings in the office to enhance collaboration among clinicians and to discuss current concepts of evidence-based dentistry.
She is a married mom of three boys. Out of the office Jody enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with her family dog.
Coreen graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management in 2005, and worked for several years as an event coordinator before returning to school to become a dental hygienist. Coreen starting working in our office shortly after graduating from Harper College in 2015, by the referral of one of her clinical instructors, Jody Janczak. She enjoys educating patients on their oral health and helping to make them feel comfortable in the dental office. In addition to providing hygiene care, Coreen also works alongside Dr. Barack as a Periodontal Doctor Assistant.
Outside of hygiene, Coreen enjoys taking her two dogs to the beach, running along the Chicago lakeshore path, and exploring local restaurants. She has been involved with multiple volunteer organizations and sincerely enjoys giving back to the community. Coreen is involved with the ADHA, and is currently serving as a Trustee for the Illinois Dental Hygienists’ Association.
Cathie has been with our practice since 1998 and graduated from Harper College as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 1976. She loves helping enrich the lives of our patients and helping them achieve good dental health. Cathie enjoys attending continuing education courses throughout the year in order to stay up-to-date on the latest oral systemic health, periodontal and implant health, smoking cessation strategies, understanding sleep apnea, etc. She is also our OSHA expert and representative who helps maintain a safe environment for our staff and patients. You can always count on Cathie to greet you with a smile and friendly approach!
In her free time, Cathie enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends. She has fun walking and exploring neighborhoods. She’d love to hear your ideas for local adventures: quirky museums, city art galleries and historic sites. She recently climbed to the top of the Rockefeller Chapel’s Carillon at the University of Chicago.
Shelly is our surgical coordinator as well as our front desk manager extraordinaire. She joined our practice in 2012 and has been in the medical field since 1991. Some of her duties include presenting financial treatment plans, scheduling surgical procedures, answering any questions prior to surgery, and communicating with referring dentists to assure we have all pertinent information before the patient’s appointment. Her close attention to detail and responsive demeanor helps our patients feel at ease before their surgical appointments. She continually enjoys learning new things, everything from the business side to the clinical side, and is always eager to share her new findings with her co-workers and patients!
Outside of work, Shelly loves spending time with her husband and family as well as her two spoiled- rotten cats, Yuki and Louis. In her free time, she enjoys watching HGTV home make-over shows and attending her Zumba and Yoga classes.
Sally joined the OOP family at the in January 2017. She has been working in the periodontal field for over 16 years. Greeting and checking in patients, answering phone calls, making appointments, and just being helpful in whatever way she can are just some of the things that she loves to do. She genuinely enjoys meeting new people and hearing their stories. She feels grateful to be a part of a team whom is heavily focused on the well-being of their patients.
Sally moved to the north side of Chicago 15 years ago. She is active in her church and enjoys mentoring younger women. In her free time she loves hanging out with her husband, going to theatre productions, knitting, reading, making her own bread, and of course spending time with her ever growing family!
Jackie joined the OOP family in July 2017 and has been in the dental field since 2007. She is one of our patient-care coordinator and is responsible for greeting and checking in our patients, scheduling, and registering new patients by insuring all required documentation is completed for a smooth transition to our back office. Her favorite part about working at OOP are her coworkers and the team work that comes along with it.
When she is not working, Jackie enjoys doing yoga, traveling to new places and playing soccer with her son.
Renia has been with Old Orchard Periodontics since 1996 and is one of the surgical assistants who not only works side-by-side with Dr. Barack, but also ensures the patient is comfortable and relaxed. Her duties range from preparing the work station to educating patients about post- operative instructions. She also serves as our supply liaison and communicates with vendors to assure prompt receipt of all clinical supplies. Her charismatic and fun personality creates a pleasant experience in the chair for the patient. Her favorite part of her job is seeing our patients smiling big at the end of their periodontal journey!
When she is not at work, Renia enjoys spending quality time with her two sons, dancing to music with a good beat, and watching movies. She likes watching the food channel and her favorite show is Chopped- even though she doesn’t cook as often. She also volunteers at her church every Friday and teaches kids the Assyrian alphabet!
Larsa started working at our practice in 2010 as a surgical assistant and implant coordinator. When she isn’t assisting Dr. Barack in surgery, she is managing our implant inventory and ensuring it is available for future implant procedures. Like our other two surgical assistants, she also organizes the surgical room by making sure all required equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly before procedures and assists with X-ray taking. Larsa thinks there is nothing more rewarding than helping others achieve a confident new smile they love!
Outside of the office, Larsa enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and her two sons as well as her extended family.
Jennifer is another one of our chairside surgical assistants and has been in the dental field- working in both clinical and administrative roles since 1992. As an assistant, she performs pre-operative and post-operative duties to better facilitate proper care for our patients. She enjoys learning new things and makes sure she takes dental continuing education courses in order to enhance her knowledge as a periodontal surgical assistant. She also assists in greeting patients in the waiting area and escorting them to their room; patients love being greeted by her sweet and cheerful personality!
On her free time, Jennifer loves spending time with her nieces and nephew. She also enjoys being outdoors, hiking and spending time at the lake with a good book. Her favorite book of all time is “My Name is Asher Lev”.
After establishing an award winning career as lead consultant for a fortune 500 company, speaking nationwide and launching a consultative practice educating doctors and dentists, Revy joined our practice in 2012. As a manager and consultant at Old Orchard Periodontics, Revy’s passion for providing a comprehensive approach to care supports Old Orchard Periodontics’ core values in providing exceptional quality and value to our patients.
Outside of work, Revy enjoys spending time with her daughter, Arielle, working out, hiking, drawing, cooking and watching old movies.
